Initiative #11 : The Trash Spotter app

Today, let me tell you about Trash Spotter.

I knew about this application thanks to other eco-adventurers who were using it, and I found the concept

A citizen and environmental action

Did you know that a plastic bag is created in 10 seconds, but needs 1000 years to degrade? And yet they are found everywhere in nature, along with plastic bottles, cans, wrappers, masks, cigarette butts, and other waste that pollute our environment.

Trash Spotter is there to create good deeds. Via the app, you can report litter abandoned in nature, and even inform that you have collected it (if you have the time and money to collect it). Since the beginning of 2021, more than 9200 spots have been created on the app, and a map is available to list them. So, if you are looking for spots for your cleanwalks or even for the World Cleanup Day which will take place on September 17th, the application is there to help you!

An action for biodiversity that leads to help for its protection

In addition to doing your bit to preserve the environment around you, each report and/or collection is recorded on your profile and contributes to a fund that you can use to support environmental associations. Isn't that great? Thanks to my reports during these months of travel, I have just made a donation of 2€ to Les éco-cyclables! It's not much but it starts there :)

Mes signalements pendant l'aventure

Donations funded by various public and private actors

I have always been told that money does not grow on trees... But where does the money used to finance these associations come from? Well, it's a partnership with the "Investing for Nature" donation fund, which collects money from patrons. Mystery solved! :)

Cleanwalks, creator of social links

Reporting or picking up litter are good opportunities to meet new people, who share these values. Whether it's with family, friends or an association, waste collection creates links!

When I was in Brittany, Florian, who works for Trash Spotter, accompanied me for a stage along the canal from Nantes to Brest. He himself does a lot of cycling and travels by bike, including collecting waste. Thanks to his project @cycleantrip (world tour by bicycle), he collected more than 850 kg of waste, congratulations to him!

Thanks again for a great time!
